Okay, have established that the kidney beans from the leftover veggie chilli is ok for DD2 to have tomorrow but there's a little bit of brown rice mixed in.

Ok or not?

I'd say no as i've heard rice is one of the main causes of food poisoning as bacteria can muliply really fast on it or something.

TeeCee · 06/02/2007 20:08

Hmmm yeah I thought reheating rice was dodgy. Will have to chuck it all then.

You might be ok - see here

I reckon if you've stored it correctly and make sure it's piping hot when reheated you should be ok.

TeeCee · 06/02/2007 20:19

Hmmm well it's been cooked and is straight in the fridge. hmmmm not sure if it's too risky though. Ohhh decisions, decisions!

i'd feed it to her.

AitchTwoOh · 06/02/2007 20:21

me too, just nuke it in the microwave first.

TeeCee · 06/02/2007 20:21

If a chick from Hoxton says yeah then that's good enough for me

Well, you learn something new every day on Mumsnet.

I've never given reheated rice a second thought. We're always eating it.

Another thing added to the list of uneatables...

hoxtonchick · 06/02/2007 20:25

ha ha, i'm just a lazy cow . but aitch knows what she's talking about!

Don't do it. It can produce a toxin that makes you puke for England. because the toxin doesn't have a complex 3D shape it doesn't get killed off by heating it.

Was told this by a toxicologist I workedf for once

AitchTwoOh · 06/02/2007 20:41

no no, i'm a lazy cow who really doesn't know what she's talking about. but tbh i've never been that careful about rice in the past and have heated it up plenty of times and never been ill. i am more careful with dd, wouldn't give her any that had been floating about for a while, but if i knew it had been in the fridge in a tupperware i'd definitely reheat it for dd.

TeeCee · 06/02/2007 20:41

Oh and I'd made up my mind and everything.
OK, not risking it, not worth it, it's binned.
