Hi all. Babe 5.5 months and I'm starting to think about things I need brought out from the UK for when I start him on solids next month. He's already got 3 teeth so I'm thinking he might appreciate some of those rusk things to naw on. Any sugar, E# etc etc free brands you could recommend for me. Cheers a lot.

I have a recipe for those - if you hang around a while I may be able to find it! (by a while, a mean a few hours until after bed time! )

Baby organix chunky bread sticks are good

Thanks Tommy. If I don't catch you tonight, will pick it up in the morning.

If you can find them, mini rice cakes are good (you can get salt-free ones from health food shops). They are a good size to hold too.

I used to give my dd's carrot sticks to gnaw on, but watch out that he doesn't choke on bits he bites off (that goes for all solid stuff though).

My dd used to choke and gag on any rusk biscuits. So she had rice cakes which she still loves now... I think they are disgusting!! lol

Really sorry Kiwicath - forgot yesterday! Here it is:

450g strong white flour
10ml cream of tartar
5ml bicarb of soda
75 g caster sugar
100g butter
1 egg beaten
250ml buttermilk

Sift flour, cream of tartar and bicarb together, add sugar and then rub in butter until like breadcrumbs. Mix together buttermilk and egg and add to flour mixture. Knead until forms ball. Pat the dough evenly into 33 x 20cm swiss roll tin. Mark into 36 fingers and bake at 200 C for 30mins. Take out of oven, cut them into slices and put on a baking tray. Return them to oven at 120C until dried.
Can be stored into airtight container.

BTW I haven't actually tried this recipe so it may be awful but it may help if you can't find anything else!
