Hi

Had my slow cooker for 5+ years and haven't used it yet The only person to use it is my SIL who is the one who got it for us. She made Jamie Oliver's Fantastic Fish Pie and it was yummy.

About time I started using it. Got an upright freezer now so want to cook batches and freeze them too.

Sooooooo, would anyone like to share their receipes with me???

One thing I really would love to try is something with liver!! YUM!

TIA

and i'd like a lentil curry slow cooker recipe please...

Wallace · 26/01/2007 20:49

just started using mine recently (had been in the cupboard for 5+ years too)

somebody linked to a nice recipe the other day, think the thread title was something about quick meal ideas.

Not a slow cooker recipe, but I did it in mine and it was yummy

A recent success for me was to cook my christmas day ham joint overnight in it - Just added an onion, celery, peppercorn and boiling water and cooked it overnight. The next morning, removed from slow cooker, added an OJ and honey glaze and gave it 30 -40 mins in a hot oven , it was delicious. BUT the most impressive thing was I saved and froze the cooking liquid and used it as stock in a vegetable soup.(as nigella advises!) It was quite salty, didn't need any extra seasoning, but a big success with everyone in headgirl house.

redshoes · 28/01/2007 12:26

It's my birthday today and dh has got me a slow cooker. I need recipes - the ones that come with it sound revolting. Which book is the JO fish pie in - or would I find it online??

jambuttie · 28/01/2007 13:26

I need some desperate inspiration too for mine. I normally do soup, stew in it thats about it so it lies there all redundant

i made chicken chausser which was lovely. Lighthy fry chicken breasts that have been coated in flour, salt and pepper. Tranfer to slowcooker, gently fry some onions and mushrooms in butter dont brown though then add to the slowcooker along with chopped peppers and a little bit garlic and anything else you may want to throw in. Also add a splash of which cook on a high heat i think for 4 to 6 hours. This recipie i just made up so just go with your instints it was delicious though. Serve with green cabbage, carrots and new potatoes.

plusone · 29/01/2007 10:30

Here goes - one of my faves & all my own creation!
Lemon Chicken
Sweat some chopped onion in a pan with oil, add some chopped carrot. Be careful not to let the onion or carrot brown. Once the onion is soft, remove carrot & onion & place in slow cooker.

Brown the chicken (I use whatever I've got: thighs, drumsticks, breast - doesn't seem to matter). Once brown remove & place into slow cooker.

Add a bit of flour to whatever fat is left in the pan - if nothing there add a bit more oil or butter.

Add a tin of chicken soup & the juice of a squeezed lemon, add some pepper & tarragon.

Allow to come to the boil in the frying pan and thicken slightly & then pour in on top of the chicken.

Turn on slow cooker & in 5+ hours later enjoy delicious lemon chicken a la Bugsy!

I tend to do anything I would cook in the oven / for a long time on a stove top, but in the slow cooker.

Just need to put less liquid (about 25% less) in than you would in the oven, as no liquid evaporates.

paella is my favourite thing to do in it .... just prep as normal, prep, then throw it in on low for 3 - 4 hours.

ejt
