Is this an allergic reaction?

Hello!

I have been mucking about with solids (baby rice, pureed pears and carrots only so far) with DD for the last week .... sorry ... didn't make it to 6 months ...
Anyway, she loves it ... gobbles it up and so far so good! It also has the added bonus of her having a better, longer sleep in the daytime.
However, yesterday I gave her some pureed stewed apple which again, she gobbled up. I did notice though, that she had a red mark on her right temple that kind of spread to around her right eye. I thought she might have scratched herself or something without my noticing. By the time she woke from her nap the mark had gone.
But today, as soon as she started eating her stewed apple the mark reappeared ... DH fed her this time and said he is sure she didn't scratch herself or anything. It is identical to the one yesterday ... right temple, spreading to around her right eye. She doesn't seem bothered by it...
Is this a reaction to the apple? Can you be allergic to apples?
No allergies in my family, bit of eczema in DH's sister.
Should I stop giving her apple and just stick to the pear and carrots and baby rice for now?
Cheers ....

Mmm, that's interesting as apple is supposed one of the least allergenic foods but if you are worried about food alergies it would be a good idea to introduce each new ingredient one by one at three days intervals. Gina Ford's Book of Weaning provides a very good program for introduction of solids, and the food is so nice that we have started to have it for dinner

Chandra ... thanks for replying!
I have been following the weaning bit at the back of CLBB ... which is what I did with DS 4 years ago and it worked brilliantly ... I didn't know there was a separate weaning book ...
So ... actually, looking at it now we must have been doing it for over a week, 3 days baby rice, 3 days pear, 3 days carrot and now 2 days apple ... and moving the baby rice and pear to tea time ...
Hmmm ... I will go back and do another 3 days of carrot then rethink ...
Thanks

Well, the mark was gone when she got up from her nap and didn't reappear all day ... I have just put her to bed ...
Should I try again tomorrow and see what happens?

No dairy yet robinw ... she's only 4 months and I am taking it all pretty slowly ... I was just surprised that it could be apple that should cause a reaction ...
Thanks ...

robinw, i know u mean well when recommended piriton to people, but it says on my bottle not to be given b4 1yr old.

so ghosty, i will say to you, it is possible it is an allergic reaction, so keep off the apples for a bit. But also make a visit to a gp/pharmacy who should be able to recommend a liquid anti-histimine suitable for your dd's young age.

was the mark raised at all? a bit like nettle rash? or was it smooth?
