Can anyone tell me if your average restaurant carafe (sp?) of house wine is roughly equivalent to a bottle, ie six glasses?

TIA.

usually

sometimes they do 500ml or 1l carafes though - a bottle is 750ml

MrsSpoon · 26/01/2007 16:47

Think it's the 1l carafe they do in this restaurant then so not far off a bottle.

Thanks.

i thought it was that mrs b..

can it vary? just ask them..

I suppose I should explain (although it makes me sound very control freakish ). I have organised a night out tonight and as I know some who are going are on a tight budget just now I don't want anyone feeling that they have to take a share of someone else's expensive order (ie wine, steak etc). So I have printed out little sheets (yes I am going to be laughed at mercilessly) that I want my friends to fill in and have decided that those who only want one glass of wine should not have to take the hit for it, so I am explaining on my little sheets that they only have to pay the price of 1/6 of the carafe, so was just checking whether the quantity in the carafe was correct.

I would phone them but it is an Italian restaurant and the last time I spoke to them on the phone the man's English was barely there (and my Italian is non existant) and I don't think he will understand my query.

I have probably just nominated myself as MN loop of the week now.

Phew, glad you don't think I'm being a nutcase then.

FWIW I will more than likely have three courses and a big share of vino.

Little slips went down quite well, I think. Had some positive feedback and somebody took one home in their handbag to use as a template for a night out they are planning. However I am wondering whether they actually took it away to have a laugh about it.
