is mixing follow-on formula with cows milk a bad idea?

ds3 is now 1 whole year old. so am taking him off aptamil forward and onto cows milk. thought id mix them for a bit to get him used to taste an all... but hes thrown up copiously a few times and am wondering if that may be the cause. anyone got any info on that?

btw - am not totally dim; he also is fairly ill anyway, coming down with chickenpox (ds2 has it now) so the throwing up could be that...

Wouldn't it make it quite a thick mixture? I wouldn't think it would taste to nice, either.

Have no experience of this, I just gave dd a few oz of cows milk one day & she then refused her formula. Haven't looked back.

no, not thick. dunno what tastes like coz i dont like taste of formula so havnt tasted. think is just kind of sweeter than milk (an bit fishy??)

IKWYM - swapping ds1 and 2 was not complicated . ackcherly i dont remember what happened there and was only 1.5 and 2.5 yrs ago but hey, i havnt slept much for the last 4 yrs, thats my excuse.

its not a big deal or owt, just wondered if anyone knew it was a particularly bad idea for some reason. is dps theory that its the milk mix thats causing the vomit vesuvius.

I would stop mixing it, tbh. It may just be that as he is poorly is tummy can't take the mix of 2 milks.

Just offer little tastes everyday, once he is over the CP. Not a great idea to mess around with diets & such when poorly anyway.

Don't know about follow-on milk specifically but my doctor has told me to mix formula with cows milk in order to wean ds2 off formula. Apparently I should start with 1oz cows milk and the rest formula and increase the cows milk by 1oz every day.

yes muddle, that was my (what i thought to be) common sense plan... am validated to hear of a doc suggesting, so ta.

but also v much see the point about not messing while hes ill, to which end i have bought a shelf load more formula and abandoned switchover for now, as suggested ( i had done already tbh)

When DS1 was about a year old he started throwing up after each formula feed. Always a what seemed to be a whole feed.
Started to give him cows milk and haven't looked back since.

Either way follow your heart. If it says mixing is the way to go then go for it.

thanks sunita. is generally my approach

funny things, kids.
