Food safety question - help please!

Last night I left the door of the freezer ajar without noticing it, when I noticed it after about three hours I had a feel of the things in there and they still felt really frozen, so I just closed it again and left it. I'm now wondering if it will be okay to eat the salmon and the chicken that was in there, or will I poison my family tonight ?
Help very much appreciated - TIA!

Hi emkana - If the food had not defrosted when you discovered it, I would guess that it's okay to eat. However, if you're in anyway unsure - better to be safe than sorry. I hope this helps in some way.

If the food was still totally solid - it will be fine. If any part of it was remotely soft- throw it away. If in doubt - chuck it out!!

3 hours doesnt seem that long to me, i guess if they still felt frozen then they're ok. i suppose to be on the safe side i would throw out any meat (or at least not give it to young kids)

did you have much food in there? was it mostly meat or other?

you can cook defrosted raw meat and then re freeze it, but on the whole if its things like bread/pizza/nuggets they cant be re frozen, so use them today!

Thanks for your answer ladies, I have thrown away any meat to be on the safe side, but will keep bread, chips etc. as it wasn't that long and I think it will be ok.
