Can anyone help me with a quick and simple potato OR tomato soup?

I make lovely leek and potato soup and lovely tomato and red pepper BUT I'm awaiting a shopping delivery (tomorrow) and have very few things in the fridge/cupboard.

I do have potatoes and I do have tins of chopped tomatoes and I do have stock cubes and onions.

Can anyone help me with a really simple recipe for either soup?

Its snowing here and we need hearty soup that'll stick to our ribs

Thank you.

Do a potato soup ?

I would chop them quite small and fry gently in olive oil with some chopped onion. It does make a difference if you brown them first. Then add stock cube and cover with water. Boil till soft then puree with a little bit of milk

Do you have a couple of tablespoons of flour and some milk? Because you could make cream of tomato soup.
Fry up onions(and a bit of garlic if you have it) in some oil. Add the flour and cook it for another few minutes stirring all the time, add a tin of tomatoes and some tomato paste(or another tin of tomatoes) add some herbs and a teaspoon of sugar, season with salt and pepper, cook for about 10/15 minutes. Add milk and blend with a stick blender or in a liquidiser.

Fry onions with cumin if you have it(and garlic if you have it), add potato and tomatoes....um.....cook until done? Do you have any lentils? Or tins of chick peas? They would help with the heartiness.
