i feel really silly but i've been a mumsnetter for ages and have only discovered this topic (mumsnetter recipes) in the last few days and am going a bit mad posting! so forgive me!!!

anyway, i love cooking nad have always baked but am looking for a book which gives good ideas for bithday cakes.. dd is coming upto 3 and she is at the age where she's getting quite excited about her birthday so this year i want to steer away from the classic cream and jam cake (with decoritive icing of course!) and be a bit more adventurous!!!

any ideas for books and website where they sell all this kind of unecessary paraphenalia!!! (i know she'd just be as happy with a chocolate cake but i want to see what's out there!!!)

thanks!

I've got this book . Have used the basic madeira cake recipe a couple of times (nice and moist) and the individual ideas are great for adapting to suit other things ie last year the Sunbather cake became a pirate island and this year the Deep Sea Fishing whale became Nemo!

Have fun!

I am doing individual cakes for DDs birthday - Sainsbury's 10th Anniversary magazines had little cakes made out of swiss roll and icing made into little sweetie bags - full of sweeties with their initial on and a candle so they all get to blow one out.

Partybag.co.uk do cake decorations I think and candles and stuff like that.
