Can you wash butter...?

Bizarre question I know

I've just had my Tesco's delivery and they packed the sausages with the butter and needless to say, the sausage packet leaked. they're refunded me the cost of the butter but I hate throwing stuff away - do you think can I rinse the raw sausage off and use the affected butter for baking?? I wouldn't be tempted to spread it raw onto toast I don't think but baking...?

Throw it away...some savings aren't worth making.

Bin it. Or if you really can't can you cut off the contanimated bit?

HuwEdwards · 02/01/2007 15:22

chuck it - washing butter is about as easy as pinning jelly to a wall.

SherlockLGJ · 02/01/2007 15:23

Stick it in the freezer and when it is hard, drop it on your toe.....

Jelley · 02/01/2007 15:23

No.

Maybe use it to fry things if you want (those leaky sausages)

Oh I know I should bin it really, it just annoys me . It's mainly the wrappers that are wet so I would imagine the butter is actually untouched thoguh. It just irritates me having to throw stuff away!!

On the plus side, I got my eggs free because 3 out of 12 were damaged.

Who on earth would be so stupid as to drop something frozen on their toe??

Lovely shade of black these days, still at least I can walk again.

BadHair · 02/01/2007 15:28

Just cut the outside bits off. Or cook with it rather than use for spreading.
I'd be far to tight to throw it away - I'd definitely use it.

AitchTwoOhOhSeven · 02/01/2007 15:29

snigger...

i'd put it on the top shelf of the fridge then cut the surface off when it's hard. because i'm mean like that.

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 02/01/2007 15:30

Cut the outside off! Of course!

I will only use it for baking though (with my free eggs ) and remember not to serve the cake to vegetarians.

(kicked a bloody stool with my "broken" little toe again yesterday. bugger me that hurt. I don't htink its ever going to get a chance to heal properly)

Will rinse packaged butter thoroughly, remove wrapper and slice off the outside.
