strawberry allergy?

Hi!

I gave some strawberry fromage frais to my 6 months DD for the 1st time today. But she seems to have developed an allergy on it: her aczema became really red and almost blistery and her neck and underarms became red. Did anyone else experienced something like that. Or may be it is an allergy to cows milk?

Lilia, Id heard that strawberries could cause allergies. Sometimes if the mum eats them and then babe gets them through the breastmilk. So it is probably the strawberries as opposed to the milk. Try natural yogurt and perhaps mashed banana, and see how she is with that.

Lilia, it has always amazed me, when strawberries are a known allergen and really shouldn't be given under 12 months, that one of the "first foods" in packets is rice AND STRAWBERRIES, from 3 months!!
Are they mad?
You also find cinnamon in packeted first foods, and spices are another no-no under 12 months.
I was given a brilliant book, by an American friend, that had a chart showing what could be given and when - I did try to stick to it (but 2 of mine got eczema anyway!)
Best stick to the baby yogurts, and things like pear and banana are safer fruits than strawberries...if I can find it (my youngest baby is 9 now!) I'll look up my American food book and give you a rundown.
Hope your daughter's flare-up has calmed down now.

May be just a coincidence...

3yo DS often (not always) complains about being "hot" after eating strawberries. Feeling "hot" doesn't get listed as a common food allergy symptom, but I can't help but wonder. Is being "hot" a food allergy symptom?

Pisser if it is. Strawberries in a little chocolate sauce is one of the few fruits he'll eat.

As food allergies go, strawberries is a common one. I would avoid giving them to him until he is old enough to articulately describe any symptoms.

Exactly the same happened to my DD at 6 months. I presumed it was a reaction to the strawberries but it turned out later to be actually the dairy was the offener and she is allergic to cows milk now. I kept her off Strawberries as a precaution until about 1.5 as I heard about them being a common allergen. Also Kiwi apparently is linked to Strawberry and people are normally allergic to both.
