rice crispy treats - where am I going wrong?

Just off to bed after a disappointing night in the kitchen.
I have not got a recipe for rice crispy treats (the toffee ones not the chocolate ones) and have tried using my (not inconsiderable) cooking knowledge to make my own version but despite using fresh rice crispies, it just keeps coming out all soggy. Does anybody out there have a recipe which prevents the snap crackle and pop from leaving the rice crispies before they are cooled?

you have to coat rapidly and cool rapidly and not use as much mixture as you think

have you tried choc ones made with baby formula?

I use normal eating chocolate. Just melt in a bowl over hot water & stir in as many rice crispies as you can.

Put in the case & in fridge as soon as possible.

here's my mum's ancestral recipe - hasn't failed me yet (do use butter and all rice crispies if you prefer)...

Chewy Finger:
4oz toffees
2oz marshmallows
4oz marg
1 level tbsp honey
3oz cornflakes
3oz rice crispies

Melt toffees, marshmallows, marg & honey, stir in flakes & crispies, press into greased swiss roll tin & chill

Can't believe anyone would waste good toffee on kids !!! Toffee to me is like chocolate is to most women.

toffee pulled my last filling out so was a very expensive toffee!

Nigella does it with melted mars bars (call herself a lady!)
