Whisky and .....?

Our next door neighbour has given us a bottle of whisky but I can't stand the stuff! Is there anything I can add like lemonade, soda water, just plain water, or any other favourites to make it more bearable?

add cream - Thats what Baileys is.

Save it and give it to someone next christmas.
Use it for christmas pudding/christmas cake next year.

You don't have to drink it

If it's a malt whisky, add a splash of cold water and savour small sips.
If it's not a malt, try adding coke.
this site has some whisky recipes on it for cooking, if you're interested.

I've just tried some with lemonade and it wasn't too bad. I'll try adding some cream because I like Baileys as well.

Thanks for your responses.

Ooh I love whisky: we mostly drink it neat.

If you don't like it though, save it for when you're ill. Cure-all for sore throat/headache/cough, etc:

Heaped spoon of honey
Melted into half a mug of hot water
Add a generous shot (or two) of whisky)
Then top up with fresh orange juice
Add a squeeze of lemon if you have one handy

I love it with ice (on its own) or put a shot of it in your coffee

if you want to water it down, have it with lemonade or with ginger ale (but don't let the whisky purists see!)

or as roisin says, it makes a great hot toddy

really, if you don't like it don't bother with it - drink something nice instead! Agree ginger is a good place to start if you really want to drink it though.

I am picky and like good whisky two-to-one with water.

southeastastra · 26/12/2006 20:08

only drink whiskey with ice!

booge · 26/12/2006 20:31

If it's a blended whisky stick what ever you like in it ginger, lemonade, coke etc however if it is a malt try sipping it with just one lump of ice or nothing. Whisky gives you a lovely talky fighty pissed, shame the days of staying up all night with a mate and a bottle are well and truely over, mind you the hang over is rough.

I'm beginning to learn a bit more about whisky now! I'm kind of a white wine and lemonade/ vodka and coke type person, so it's nice that there are some things I can add just to "water it down" a bit. I think it's having it neat that I don't like (the burning as it goes down!)

Thanks once again for your responses. Will try some of them out.
