Any nice ideas for avocadoes?

Does anyone have any good ideas for what to do with an avocado? (given tha I'm not keen on prawns )

I want to get into eating them because they're very healthy, aren't they?

indigNativity · 19/12/2006 18:37

In nz I am told they eat them mashed up in sandwiches instead of using mayo

caffeinequeen · 19/12/2006 18:38

Can just chop in half and eat of their skins. Yum

indigNativity · 19/12/2006 18:38

add toms and mozerella and your best salad dressing - I could eat this every day

SherlockLGJ · 19/12/2006 18:38

Olive oil and black pepper

wickedwinterwitch · 19/12/2006 18:39

I eat them with just salt and black pepper. You could make guacamole , although I'm not keen personally.

Ooh, thank you! Sounds yummy, esp. the chicken and avocado sandwiches.

I bought one a couple of weeks ago, put it in the fridge, then cut it in half while it was still rock hard and ended up throwing it away. The skin has to be quite yielding for you to know it's ready, doesn't it? (sorry about appalling English!)

slice it, drizzle (ahem...) with lemon juice. Grill bacon. Put it all in a tortilla wrap, sprinkle with cheese. Wrap the whole thing in foil and pop it under the grill until the cheese has melted. Yummy and only a zillion calories

in front of telly late at night. Cut in half, fill stone whole with red wine vinegar, shake of salt and grind of pepper.

Yum!

Don't store an unripe avo in the fridge - keep it out in your fruit bowl. It's ripe when either a) the skin is black (if it's a Hass) or b) when it's a bit soft (if not a hass).

Very nice with tomato, mozza and a bit of dressing. And I love guacamole.

MMMM guacamole.

Avocadoes are really good on a simple salad.

My sister in law is from Brazil and there they make milkshakes using, milk, sugar, and avocadoes.

Avocado pesto -- make with cilantro instead of basil otherwise as you would make a normal pesto.

Stockingsofdinosaurs · 20/12/2006 10:59

Mash with dairylea/primula and dollop into vols au vent. Or just give the mixture to fussy toddlers to dip things in as 'green cheese.'
If you want to ripen it, stick it in a bag with a banana (they give of pungent gases apparently).

Stockingsofdinosaurs · 20/12/2006 11:00

Just in case nobody knows what cilantro is, it's coriander.

it was a looooong day yesterday and forgot to translate
