Ok so my newest obsession is Eggnog!! I decided to try an eggnog latte at starbucks for a change to my usual gingerbread latte!!
Gingerbread lattes are the most yummmist yummy! So much so that I had to buy a bottle of gingerbread syrup to take home.
Now I am in no way shunning the lovely gingery latte... but.... I am in love with it's yellowey creamy bud eggnog latte!! I love the sweet (almost sickly) taste, all rich and creamy and nutmeggy!! ofcourse a little whipped cream just has to be added, I just close my eyes and dont think of the calories!!
I only have one a week pr even less as I pop in to the starbucks near work on my way in and only if i'm more than 15 mins early.
sooooooooo,
Starbucks cant sell me a carton as it's not for resale/retail , the friendly baristas let me see the carton to read (I had a flash of me running out the store shouting "it's mine...all mine")
to see if there was an address on it but it's made esp for starbucks coffee comp and it comes from US, the addy had a the amsterdam starbucks on it.

I have searched for a carton or tin of the creamy stuff and being an American traditional drink, I cant find it! The only two places that I found online was ebay and an american product online store.... but it was £6.25 a can!!! PLUS p&p!! nearly £10!! I cant bring myself to pay £10......

oooooooo!!! I could scream!! and to think it's origins are here in europe - sob!!

Right I'm gonna have to go to every forum I'm part off.... even the ones I just lurk in and see if anyone knows where to get some.

Oh and I know I could make it but I want a carton so I can have it there when I want and keep and well.... laziness i guess!!

Can't you make it and freeze it in portions or something?

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 17/12/2006 19:02

Email Starbucks UK and beg?

JackieNoHoHo · 17/12/2006 19:05

Somebody here (last answer on the page) suggesting trying Asda...

JackieNoHoHo · 17/12/2006 19:13

Hmm - there's this stuff but it's out of stock there, but looks like it may be in stock here (very last item on the list).

JackieNoHoHo · 17/12/2006 19:15

Also available here .

MrsBadger · 17/12/2006 19:19

found your £6.25+P&P site but will keep looking - allegedly Asda sometimes stocks it.

(if you're in London the basement food hall of Harrods used to be a good source of US groceries, ditto the deli on Rosslyn Hill in Hampstead)

ChampsOnIce · 17/12/2006 19:40

bah!!! no luck with starbucks, here's the email reply:

Thank you for taking the time to contact Starbucks Coffee Company.

Unfortunately eggnog is only available to purchase as a beverage in our stores and we are unable to disclose our distributors as it is made exclusively for Starbucks.

We appreciate you getting in touch and look forward to welcoming you back soon to your local Starbucks.

humph!!

WeWishUAMerryXmasNANappyNewYr · 19/12/2006 02:37

if you are near a selfridges sometimes they stock it.

TallulahRose · 19/12/2006 02:46

You could always make your own. Then you can fill it up with booze.

alibauble · 19/12/2006 04:39

Easy by Warninks Advocaat and add cream to it, whoosh it around in your milk, hey presto Egg Nog Latte. That was the true original Egg Nog. Sorry it's everywhere here in Colorado wish we were allowed to ship this kind of stuff. If I see a packet mix do you want one as they do sell that?

alibauble · 19/12/2006 04:47

okay here's the recipe to make Eggnog from scratch
INGREDIENTS

  • 4 cups milk
  • 5 whole cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 12 egg yolks
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups light rum
  • 4 cups light cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

DIRECTIONS

  1. Combine milk, cloves, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, and cinnamon in a saucepan, and heat over lowest setting for 5 minutes. Slowly bring milk mixture to a boil.
  2. In a large bowl, combine egg yolks and sugar. Whisk together until fluffy. Whisk hot milk mixture slowly into the eggs. Pour mixture into saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly for 3 minutes, or until thick. Do not allow mixture to boil. Strain to remove cloves, and let cool for about an hour.
  3. Stir in rum, cream, 2 teaspoon vanilla, and nutmeg. Refrigerate overnight before serving.

Then use that and if you google you'll find the Starbucks Eggnog Latte recipe.

Here's another one:

INGREDIENTS:
6 eggs
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened
condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 quart milk
1/3 pint heavy whipping cream
1 pinch ground nutmeg
1 pinch salt

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Beat eggs; mix in condensed milk, vanilla, quart of milk and salt.
  2. Beat the whipping cream until soft peaks form. Fold in to egg and milk mixture and sprinkle with nutmeg. Serve chilled.

I really miss eggnog. I managed to find some pasteurised (or UHT?) in Tokyo one year, and brought it home, only to find (as usual) that it's really not actually drinkable. The texture is like motor oil.

(Proper egg nog comes in cartons and is not UHT, and hence not very importable.)

I did find a recipe for eggnog, one year, that didn't involve raw egg. I'll try to find it again. I prefer the ones without the booze in, and you can add booze later, too ...

Ahh, here . Might give it a go this year ...

ChampsOnIce · 20/12/2006 00:34

I'll give selfridges a call, WeWishUAMerryXmasNANappyNewYr TallulahRose I thinbk I will end up doing that!!
and a bit of booze too

alibauble someone else recomended advocat, they said it was really nice so I may but a minature bottle to try it.
