Frozen chicken - not sure what to do....

I've just taken some chicken pieces out of the freezer. The date on them is July 2006 - can I still use them now, or is that too long? They were frozen as soon as they came back from the supermarket in July.

I would eat it, but then thats not saying much

"It's safe to freeze chicken in its supermarket wrapping for up to two months. For longer storage and to prevent freezer burn, wrap the package with heavy-duty foil, plastic wrap or freezer paper. For best flavour and texture, serve it within four months."

I would defrost them and see what they are like. They are probably fine.

Thanks v. much.

what on earth is "freezer burn"???!!! They're those individually wrapped breast pieces.

I think I'll see how they smell when they've defrosted - that advice seems to say they won't kill me, but the texture might be a bit under par...! Probably just feed them to me and DH, not DS1...

Freezer burn is when moisture is lost from the food due to poor wrapping or being stored to long. It makes the taste and texture of the food not pleasant.

oh i see. hopefully they'll be ok, as they're in the individual bags to freeze. Fingers crossed.
