Hi

Have just made a sponge cake for my mums birthday (today, I'm picking her up in 20 minutes!!).

It didn't seem ready in the middle so I gave it 5 mins longer (total 35/40mins). Now the middle is fine but I have a bit of a crust, ooops.

What do you do?

(a) leave it and smother extra butter icing on the sides?
(b) trim it? and hope it trims without splatting the cake on the floor
(c) give up and serve the toffee one you bought yesterday expecting your baking skills would falter?

Need to go now but will check this before the icing fiasco begins .

Thanks you, thank you, thank you

a)
or b) if it is really bad

but wait until it is very cold before attempting either
