tip from most taste - add some anchovivy paste in... (no it doesn't make it tasty fishy - just brings out the natural flavours)..

Also add worcester sauce, and some bouillon stock (just a pinch)...

Don't worry about giving it to the kids, I'm pretty sure all the alcohol boils off so there is no chance of them imbibing too much. If you are worried, finish it off on the stove top with the lid off for a while.

For taste, add some beef stock or Oxo cubes to give it a richer flavour.

These sound great but we haven't got a slow cooker. Can someone give me a good basic but delish recipe with the correct oven timings etc? Also, can I freeze some for later?

i put sweet potato in mine, helps thicken it and adds a beautiful sweetness.

Okay - not entirely basic but marvellous: Deli's Beef Bourguignon

The How to Cheat version

Btw, "Deli" is code for "Delia"

Make it the day before and reheat it - the flavours really seem to improve.

BethleCAM · 06/12/2006 20:12

You have to put stock in it as well as red wine, I use vegetable bouillon

MerryChristmasfromQV · 06/12/2006 20:13

Bayleaf always a must in ANY casserole.
