This is for my 5 best girlfriends to say thanks for being great and loyal and fun and just 'there'. Honest opinions please as I want this to be good!

Starter - filo pastry cases with filling of spinach, ricotta, sauted garlic and shallot, toasted pine nuts on herb salad with balsamic dressing.

Main - baked cod with tapenade in tomato, olive and white wine sauce

Pud - raspberry cheesecake, warm pecan pie with vanilla ice-cres,

Cheese

Will it do?

Thanks in advance, girls

Oh, and loads of wine

It sounds delicious, but a lot of work for you!

oxocube · 05/12/2006 18:24

loads can be done ahead of the evening. Fish can be prepared on tray and bunged in oven before serving starter, filo cases and filling can be made up separately and put together at last minute, desserts made in advance and pecan pie heated in micro!! I have tried to make it as organised as possible

Sounds fab......as long as they all eat fish and nobody has a nut allergy

bossykate · 05/12/2006 18:30

i think it sounds wonderful

have a great evening!

oxocube · 05/12/2006 18:30

no allergies and all are fish friendly. Have checked!

Gingerbear · 05/12/2006 18:32

fab.
Where is my invite?

SherlockLGJ · 05/12/2006 18:33

I'll get my coat.

oxocube · 05/12/2006 19:25

You are all being so nice. But seriously, does anyone think this is not good/wouldn't work/is generally unpleasant? I know what I like to eat but its always good to hear unbiased opinions

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 05/12/2006 19:28

I'd eat that all - I love ricotta and spinach things. Not mad on fish but even fish haters can normally stomach cod.

If I was to be ultra ultra critical, I prob wouldn't have raspberry cheesecake with my pecan pie but would have one or the other (but that's prob what you intended) but I'm not a sweet toothed person.

oxocube · 05/12/2006 19:29

Gingerbear, I remember you in particular posting on one of my food/ recipe angst threads but can't remember which!! Thanks to everyone for posting. Its great to run things by others interested in food or those who are just greedy

foxinsocks · 05/12/2006 19:29

in fact, I should think they'll be very grateful you've gone to so much effort for them! sounds lovely

oxocube · 05/12/2006 19:31

foxinsock, I don't do puddings either but my friends do (big time!) so I thought I'd offer a choice of two!! I'll pig out on the cheese and olive bread (and maybe a glass or five of vino)

OP posts:
prufrock · 05/12/2006 19:31

It sounds lovely. Are you doing any side dishes with the cod. Even as a girl I would still like to have something substantial (maybe mash made with olive oil) to soak up the loads of wine.

doormat · 05/12/2006 19:32

sounds lovely oxo

but if it was me
I would have penis shaped chocs
for afters with the wine
just to have a good laugh and too make it memorable
but that is just me

have a lovely night

hoxtonchick · 05/12/2006 19:32

sounds delicious. the only thing i'd quibble about is lack of carbs in the main course? any chance of some potatoes or rice? or even nice bread....

oxocube · 05/12/2006 19:36

fox, they will be grateful but so am I - this really is a bit of a love-fest They are such lovely, generous people. The idea of hosting a big party (like they sometimes do) freaks me out but I just wanted to return so many favours to these women who have been such fab friends and this is the best way I know how.

prufrock, I was thinking of cheating as our local supermarket does these lovely rosemary potato slices (aka posh chips!!!!) which you pop in the oven for 15 mins and are yummy. Would that do, do you think? Also green beans which are in season (just). Three of my 5 friends are fab cooks!!

oxocube · 05/12/2006 19:43

doormat, where would one find penis shaped chocs? That would be really funny ?

pelvicfloorSNOWmore · 05/12/2006 19:44

Sounds fab
Can i be your friend?

SherlockLGJ · 05/12/2006 19:44

Oxocube

We serve our greenbeans with grated parmesan in this house.

SherlockLGJ · 05/12/2006 19:45

Fresh obviously, not the stuff that smells like stinky socks.

prufrock · 05/12/2006 19:46

I think those would be fine - you just need some carbs.

doormat · 05/12/2006 19:46

oxo you can get them from ann summers catalogue or the shop
and online obviously

oxocube · 05/12/2006 19:51

doormat. Online sounds good. Wouldn't have the bare-faced cheek to go in person!! Cheers
