Am going back to work in Jan and have a slow cooker which never been used yet. Like the idea of meal being ready when we all get home at night. Please help!!

Don't know if you're happy to use jars, but I do a lot of 'chicken tonight' in mine. I chuck the raw chicken peices in with a load of veg and the sauce and cook it for at least five hours.

A bit of rice or cous cous (which is lots quicker) and the meal is done!

I shall watch this with interest - I bought my one when /i went back to work and ive never cooked a successful meal in it yet. I have to say it really f#cks me off.

Anyway, goodluck.

Have a look at the recipes on here there are loads of ideas!

swift - what are you doing wrong do you think?

swift1 · 04/12/2006 21:16

I think on a few occaiasions i havent cooked it for long enough. Last week I did a chick casserole, and put it on med , it said it would take 5-7 hours and it was on ofr 8 and was still bloody raw. Plus where I had coated the chikck in flour it was all coverered in blobs - really yuk.

was it whole pieces of chicken? did you brown them? I find 1 dessert spoon of seasoned flour in a sandwich bag, shake the bag to coat and then brown in a pan before putting in the casserole.

Switch the cooker on while you prepare everything so it's already hot when you put the food in hot.

My biggest fault is not leaving the bloody thing alone - I'm a stirrer so it always takes longer than it's meant too!

I do love mine though.
