As far as I can tell, from tasting coffee from machines at friend's hoyses, they are shite in a cup, apart from the Senseo, which I likeed..
Can anything beat an Italian stove top espresso pot - the aroma alone is so lovely ...

Can't do the instant coffee anymore, practically mainlining espresso here. We bought a Gaggia espresso machine for christmas last year and can't go back to anything else. It steams the milk as well so makes great hot chocolate. Other than that all those pod ones are pretty much processing floor sweepings. Mr. Coffee is ok but i think once you get a taste for espresso you are hooked and its hard to guzzle down that other stuff. and for the recor i think Lavazza is the best for pre ground espresso. mmmm coffee must have the precious coffee!

why can't you stick with the stove top espresso? They are cheapest and I think by far the best. If you are splashing out for christmas why not just get loads of lovely coffee, nice espresso cups, milk frother thing by boden etc.?

only problem with stove tops is making coffe for lots of people - we just have cafitereiere thing at the back of the cupboard.

ILs got me a Senseo last birthday - I love it. (I'm the only one who drinks coffee in our house and I like it with loads of milk - can't drink it black).

Floor sweepings . The ones we get are organic though, surely they're OK?

I do love my stove top thing, but as you say,it's difficult to make coffee for more than a few people at a time.

We have a Senseo as DH is the usually only one who drinks coffee and only then , about 2 cups per day. I think its okay actually. The Nespresso is better imo but loads more expensive - depends on how much coffee you drink I suppose! Senseo is fairly cheap and the coffee pads are in all the supermarkets.

We have this one in stainless steel . It makes fab coffee.

Not sure what a stove top espresso pot is - do you have a link?

santacutie · 04/12/2006 17:53

it's just an old fashioned coffee pot thing that you stick on the stove, put water in the base and boil it and it percolates up through the filter containing coffee into the jug bit above - you can get them for individual cups,or much bigger ones.
