Why should I buy organic milk?

Please convince me that I should be buying organic dairy. I buy it for DS but not for me.

I have heard references to mastitis & pus in milk & I'm intrigued by these gruesome tales. Please, tell me more...

Thanks essbee. That's interesting about skimmed milk. I'd heard that vitamin D is also associated with the fat molecules so you should buy semi-skimmed to make sure you get enough Vitamin D (or something). Hmmm, very confusing. What's a girl to do?!

I buy organic for everyone. I just think that milk is something you have all the time so why not get the organic? And now that the supermarkets are doing their own organic brands it's not that much more expensive.

I like knowing that it's free of hormones (why do you think the cows keep making milk for so long?), antibiotics, pesticide residues etc.

Plus the cows are probably treated better and maybe even get to eat some real grass, rather than the pelleted "pre mix" that the other cows get.

Also, organic is higher in essential fatty acids like Omega 3 so it's better nutritionally.

Somebody told me recently that if you only buy one organic product it should be milk. Mainly for the lack of hormones and the extra Omega 3 - mine all drink a couple of pints a day each so I've given up buying expensive fish oil capsules for them and just buy organic milk (and fresh tuna/mackeral once a week) instead. Probably daft, but the logic works for me!

If you buy Rachel's organic milk it's not homogenised and it tastes lovely.

I get my milk from a local milkman - supportng the local small business and all that. Don't have an organic choice though. So, have stuck with milkman for now.
