I tried this last year and it looked great but tasted horrible! We just ate all the sweets off and ended up throwing the house away. Does anyone have a good recipe for the house itself (I've got the cutters etc) DD absolutely loved decorating it (we did it with my mum so three generations made it This year I'm hoping ds can join in too!
Oh and before anyone tells me, yes, I know you can buy the kits already made up but I actually want to make it myself!
Thanks.

Ho, ho, ho

I've alway thought that about gingerbread houses. Look great but must taste like a sticky sour sweetly mess. I wonder if anyone does actually eat and enjoy them.

Never made one though so can't help.

yes i will make one, just use normal gingerman recipe but make sure you roll it out nice and thin otherwise it puffs up too much they taste pants by the way, i think its cos its gone stale by time you actually eat it . The ikea kits are good to have in as a stand by if it goes tits up!

Yes me, but I am not brave enough to do the whole cooking it bit as well as trying to supervise a dyspraxic 7 year old and a toddler, with the sticking together bit. So I have cheated and have a kit and can't help you at all, but wanted to post as I am excited about my gingerbread house !

Ikea sell a kit to make one - all the gingerbread pieces are in the pack and you just need to make the icing to stick it together

I'm determined to make one this year like you, and was wondering about the recipe.

It sounds like so much more fun to make than to buy, but if all else fails the IKEA one sounds like a good compromise.

I will watch with interest, but if no-one has a recipe I will probably spend hours trawling the internet for one.

WhenSantaWentQuietlyMad, let me know if you find one! I thought I might try the delia smith gingerbread man recipe from here as I've made it lots of times before:

Bought a gingerbread train from JL this year for a change as we usually have a house from Ikea. They are great fun to decorate - we do it on New Year's Eve and eat it at midnight.
