I am fortunate to live in a part of Britain that has some wonderful local delicacies, such as

Black pudding
tripe
black peas
sticky toffee pudding
butter pies.

It is my mission to sample as many varieties of regional fayre from around Britain as possible. What local delicacies do you have in your area and have you tried them?

Oh yes, Hammer, nothing better than a patty butty with loads of vinegar. Are you from round these parts then? Nobody on MN knows what a patty butty is!

Mrs Moggy too true!

I'm in between the railway town and the southern 'Wich.

Lolamon · 10/08/2015 10:17

Scouse!

I can never get it right though!

I'm surprised that there have been so few Yorkshire folk on here.

To add to the previous list:

Parkin
Barnsley chops
Yummy Yorkshire ice cream
Cheeses - Wensleydale, Yorkshire Blue
Liquorice - Pontefract cakes
Rhubarb
Chocolate

I grew up with

Bacon Broth - we don't eat meat so I still make this, but use smoked salmon instead - DH is ill, so I made it for him last night

Corned Beef & Taty Pie - I now do a version using tuna, which isn't as bad as it sounds & meat eaters wolf it down & leave the corned beef

Stotty Cake - I miss this & have tried hard, but have never managed to make it authentic- despite using an old family recipe of my great aunt, who was a village baker - it's so much more than a flat bun - it needs a proper fire oven to get it right

Pease Pud
& singing Hinnies - I still use my great aunts recipe for making Bramble Hinnies & will be digging it out again soon as its that time of year & everyone loves them :)

Here we have

Sussex Smokey & omg, done properly, they are to die for, I would happily eat nothing else for the rest of my life

Sussex Ponf Pudding, which is lovely too

& I also hear that we have "Lardy Johns" & Sussex Hog Pie, but I will give those a miss

I am boysies - born and bred! Smile

Has anyone mentioned Yorkshire curd tart? That is superb (well-made). And pikelets from Barnsley market. And Yorkshire puds served before the meat.

agoodbook · 10/08/2015 14:02

Bearleigh
I did! - we love curd tart, though I have to order curd now- nobody really stocks it.
And sorry to disagree - but Yorkshire pudding has always been with the meat here, but..... in our family I always have to make extra for afters - spread with jam :)

Emochild: I am happy to report I got a butter pie in a bread cake from Bolton market for lunch today. It was delicious I could have eaten a second or even a third one. If it were not for you, I would not have had that today for lunch. I'll be getting it again and again. Thanks for the tip off

Arbroath Smokies are fab.

StellaAlpina · 22/12/2015 19:38

From my area of Italy...

gnocchi
pizzoccheri
polenta taragna
taleggio
bresaola
bisciola
grappa

It's a wonder they don't all weigh a tonne!

You can get most of these in England but they are just not as nice Sad

StellaAlpina · 22/12/2015 19:40

Sorry, didn't realise it was just British regional foods...have no idea what mine are - off to google and make myself hungry.

cdtaylornats · 23/12/2015 15:00

Bridie's
Border Tart
Black bun
Scotch Pies
Killie Pies
