Stupid stupid question about potatoes

Smurfgirl · 22/11/2006 20:23

I bought some potatoes on Saturday and forgot to do anything with them so they have been stuck in their plastic bag in their warm kitchen since then.

So I took them out today and they smell kind of soily (is that a word?) I have washed them and they still smell like that, will it be ok to cook them - I want to make mash with them. They are not green or sprouting just smell like soil.

Excuse the stupidness of my question!

mine are often like that and we are still here to tell the tale

Me too - and soily is exactly how I'd describe the smell too!!! I think as long as they're still firmish and aren't green then you're fine!!

As long as they don't have actual flowers on then I cook any old potatoes!

Thanks

That should of course have been my kitchen, obviously my potatoes do not have their own kitchen

my dad laughed at me the other day for keeping potatoes in the fridge, how times change!

I don't think spuds are meant to be kept in the fridge, it is too wet an environment.

Spuds should be kept somewhere cool and dark
