Have been given a free packet of Caramel flavour (CARAMEL FLAVOUR???? RYVITA??? Ew) in with my internet shop and I have to say they are totally bizarre.
The packet says on the front: "Simple Rye Goodness" but the ingredients list is:
Wholegrain Rye Flour, Sugar, Caramel Flavouring, Dried Glucose Syrup, Trehalose*, Vegetable Oil, Salt, Emulsifier: Soya Lecithin.
*Trehalose is a source of glucose.
Doesn't sound that simple to me. Not only that but that's THREE different types of sugar in there isn't there?! Isn't ryvita supposed to be a savoury snack?
The front of the packet also says "Only 103 Cals" - ONLY?! It's effectively 1 ryvita broken into small chunks in a packet - 103 calories seems a little high to me. But then again - 3 types of sugar...
I've just bitten into one. Yup. Definitely lots of sugar, very very sickly and sweet. I think for the first time ever I might throw a freebie away...
