Help please!!! Need a quick starter for dinner party!!

Have had a quick look in the archives, but nothings grabbing me. Anyone got a tasty starter that's quick and easy please?!

lovely olive oil in bowl. olives in bottom of bowl. add balsamic vinegar so it floats to bottom of bowl

dip in nice breads - selection of.

good for more of an informal dinner with firends. maybe not so good for more formal affair with the boss say! as you all share form the smae bowl...

salad leaves
jar of raosted peppers, tomatoes ect as you like
slices of mazarella
some sort of olive oil type dressing

arrange on plate and voila!

oh and deep fried brie

slice brie
dip in flour, beaten egg and then breadcrumbs
repeat so there are two layers of this
deep fry
serve with mint jelly

Whole Camambert (sp?)
Place ( in box ) in the oven for about 15 mins .... just enough to warm through ( praps cover with foil so it doesn't burn ) it needs o be all goooey !!!

Put on plate with .... crudites* to dip in ...

Yum Yum Yum ....

  • peppers / carrots / celery / pringles / .....

pear and blue cheese salad? Put some salad from bag - rocket pref - on plates and top with slice of roquefort or similar and half a ripe pear (sliced)each. Drizzle with dressing (balsamic vinegar/olive oil/dijon mustard), sprinkle with pieces of walnut (from packet) and you're done! Takes 5 mins max and really yummy!

(if you're doing the whole camembert, don't forget to take it out of the plastic-coated paper before putting it back in the box. I seem to remember my DH re-swraps it in greaseproof before putting it back in the wooden box - keeps it all together. Yum)

prawns and seafood sauce on a bed of lettuce? easy, and can be prepared before and placed in the fridge. If you want to do this, and need a marie rose sauce recipe then let me know

Thank u everyone for some scrummy ideas! I've ended up doing a bit of a cheat cos run out of time - bought some lovely olives and feta cheese in oil together with some olive ciabatta for dipping in some basil oil.

mmmm making myself hungry now - got to wait til 8pm!!!!
