Hi everyone. I've just about talked DH into letting us get a breadmaker for xmas but have realised I've never made it the proper way.

Can anyone give me an easy recipe and hints and tips to make it properly? Then maybe I can get clothes for xmas instead

ts I use this basic recipe but am no good at weights and measures as I do it by eye

around 500g of strong bread flour
pinch of salt
and around an ounce of baking fat re lard etc

mix thes up until crumbly

add one pkt of dried yeast
and enough warm water until the dough comes off the sides easily

put on worktop and knead for at least 10mins

place in greased loaf tin
or to make batches on greased trays

and then leave in a warm room until it has doubled in size
(usually 45mins-to an hour)

put eggwash on top and bake in hot oven (around 220c
wait till golden brown, tip out and bang bottom to see if it sounds hollow
when it is hollow it is done
good luck
