PRINCESS BIRTHDAY CAKE - HELP PLEASE

LOOBYLOU2 · 08/11/2006 08:27

Hi
I'm making my first princess birthday cake
Q1 - can I use a pyrex dish to make the dome shape top of the dress?
Q2 - should I slice the cake in half to put Barbie in the middle or just push her in?
thanks for your thoughts and ideas . . . . .

1 - yes
2 - cut a cylindrical hole with a long knife first, like coring an apple, and stick legs into hole.

top tip - Barbie is very tall - if you have a shorter doll you'll need less cake...

If you have a cake decorating shop anywhere nearby it's worth going there as they will let you hire (for about a £1 for 2 days) a cake tin that you use for the 'skirt'. I also bought a 'barbie head' with just a spike instead of legs that you just poke in to the finished cake. It's so easy which is why I've done the same cake for the past 3 years! Decorate with pink icing (ready made 'Barbie pink'!) and all the silver balls/sugar flowers/dolly mixtures, etc... you can fit on - in this case, you can't 'over decorate' - the more the better! Have fun!

thanks for the tips and advice
Made the cakes - can't wait to get busy with the icing and glitter sprinkles!
