Ok so what do Italians have for Christmas lunch/ dinner? I keep threatening pizza but would like something slighty more authentic .

Skribble · 06/11/2006 15:10

Hi earlgrey - sorry, only just got back to computer after football class, teatime, bath etc etc. My dad's family is from Italy, although a long time ago. His mum's side are from Borgo Taro, and his dad's from Napels. We don't know much about the Napels side, but there are distant reles in and around Borgo Taro and it's the kind of place where you're related to half the village anyway... It's my dad's dream to buy a house in the village his mum's family were from, an ambition I am encouraging for free holidays and the chance for my 2 boys to learn Italian!

Why did you holiday in Italy at Christmas? Sounds lovely!

Homemade pizza for christmas eve tea is another tradition. Those yummy bread smells...

EELS.
I kid you not.

earlgrey · 07/11/2006 11:34

ABO, we used to go because my dad had family there and then later went to live there?

Where? Borgo val di Taro!!! You've probably related to me!!!!!!!

AllBuggiedOut · 07/11/2006 14:18

Small world earlygrey! My grandma's village was Belforte, other reles in Caffaraccia. You?

earlgrey · 07/11/2006 14:32

In Borgo Tara itself - up that steep hill, in a house called Villa Capitelli. God, that hill was lethal with a covering of snow!

AllBuggiedOut · 07/11/2006 15:28

Have you been back recently? We took DS1 there last summer.

earlgrey · 07/11/2006 18:07

No, not for years. Is the Albergo Firenze still there? That was owned by our rellies, our used to be!

AllBuggiedOut · 07/11/2006 23:18

It's not only still there, but seems to have its own website !

The Mistrello was our hang out. If you're feeling nostalgic have a look here . Great pictures of mushrooms...
