do any of you make up batches of sandwiches then freeze them for the week ahead? i have done it, but only plain boring ham which pleases the children. but now i'd like to do it for myself. so would like to know what freezes well and what are big 'no-no's.
thanks

I do this for ds1 and for dh. Have done it for dh for years. Mainly variations on hard cheeses, ham, cold meats, pate. Marmite is ok and so is philadelphia.

I don't freeze brie/camembert, but have no idea why not Don't freeze tomatoes or salad as it goes soggy.

Also don't freeze tuna sandwiches as they tend to go soggy.

what about relishes, mayonaise etc?
why don't supermarkets do them????
my main reason for doing it is that i won't have access to a fridge so my butties will be in the car from 8.30 till 12, so if they bstarted off frozen they may be ok as the weather geta hotter (we hope)

pickles and mustard is fine - not sure about mayo.
Could you not pack your sandwich in a small cool bag with an ice pack for same effect ? although
just grabbing one out the freezer every morning is easier - you could keep some of those mayo/salad cream sachets from pubs in your desk. I keep a pot of mustard in mine.

In summer I freeze the tube yogs for ds1s pack lunch too. Then by lunch time they are soft, but still cold. Also small bottles of water. Nice and cold by lunch time !

I freeze batches of sandwiches every week.

Don't freeze mayo - only because it states onthe jar not to freeze.
Beety - Cucumber goes all funny and transparent and looses it's crisp bite - IYKWIM

Tend to do meats and cheeses, marmite - not salad.
I find a weekly batch of sandwich making easier than nightly !

Sonnet, thank you, thank you Everyone I know always looks at me like I'm a complete organisation freak, or I'm trying to poison my menfolk when i say I make up the weeks sandwiches/rolls and freeze them.

As has been proved time and time again, you're never the only one on mumsnet
