SoupDragon · 29/10/2006 10:35

No, it's not the same at all.

SoupDragon · 29/10/2006 10:37

NOooh! Here you go

"If you have a can of evaporated milk on hand, you can make a very good approximation of condensed milk. In a saucepan, combine a cup of evaporated milk with 1-1/4 cups of sugar. Heat until the sugar is completely dissolved. Let cool. You can refrigerate the mixture for several days."

mears · 29/10/2006 10:39

There are other companies that make condensed milk. I can't remember the name I have seen but it began with 'F' I am sure.

SoupDragon · 29/10/2006 10:42

Fussels. Bought out by Nestle

SoupDragon · 29/10/2006 10:42

Following on from my substitute recipe...

"If you don't have evaporated milk on hand either, you can make your own by slowly simmering any quantity of milk in a pan until it reduced by 60%"

zippitippitoes · 29/10/2006 10:45

the co op have their own brand..might be worth checking or look in an asian food supermarket

mears · 29/10/2006 10:45

SoupDragon · 29/10/2006 10:46

I've seen that site before, Giraffski. No need forme to look at it again as I already have it bookmarked.

Or put it on your shopping list for next time you do a cruise to France. You can get non-Nestle condensed milk there.

In Germany, you can get condensed milk from Russia. Look in the foreign foods section of a big supermarket.
