Soft butter, add icing sugar until you get the desired consistency. You don't need lots of butter - if it's soft enough, a little goes a long way! x

I use butter and icing sugar no real measurements to give i'm afraid I just keep adding one or other until it is the consistency I want. If it is too sweet or sickly you can add a drop of vanilla extract.

50g butter or marg
100g sieved icing sugar

use a wooden spoon to cream the butter (ie stir it fast till itgoes quite soft) gradually add icing sugar stirring so it all creams together.

Simple!!! Hope this helps!

(can also add tablespoon of drinking chocolate mixed to a paste with a little milk to make a chocolate version)

frumpygrumpy · 25/10/2006 12:35

Thanks to you all. Can I just eat the lot without putting it on a cake?

yes - it also makes a good sandwich

Beafryd2veryafrydnervesleft · 25/10/2006 12:36

Thats why you need to make double the amount you actually need for the cake.

frumpygrumpy · 25/10/2006 12:39

You are all very, very wise. Off to get practising, must practise a lot.

Just remember to sieve the icing sugar otherwise it will look like it's got little snow balls through out!
