I usually make biccies and cakes for my small kids but I'm looking for a savoury version, preferably something they can hold in one hand to eat. Also that might be used for tea in an emergency. Any ideas?

cheese straws?
cheese scones?
oatcakes? (there's a great recipe from mawbroon in the archives somewhere)
and I'm sure there was something my mum used to make for parties along the lines of pastry spread with marmite and rolled up, then cut into pinwheel slices...

Someone must have a good cheese straws recipe...

All of the previously mentioned things. We like Cheese straws with marmite. Nigella has a few recipes - I'll have a look in the morning but I'm sure someone else will post a recipe before I manage it

roll out filo pastry, spread with marmite and top with grated cheese, roll up, seal with milk and cut into circles and bake, you could cut after if you prefer.

I was going to say cheese straws:

4oz plain flour
Pinch of salt and pepper (I leave the pepper out usually)
2oz unsalted butter
1 egg yolk
2oz cheese (chedder is best I think)
2-3 tsp cold water

Pre heat oven to 400f (gas mark 6)

Sift flour and salt and pepper into a wide bowl
Cut up the butter and rub until resembles breadcrumbs
Blend in the cheese and egg and mix with 1 tsp of the water.
Add more water to give a stiff dough
Knead dough lightly on a floured surface
Roll into a rectangle..trim edges evenly
Cut strips roughly 1/4 inch. wide, 2 inches long
Bake in the centre of the oven for approx. 12 mins or until golden brown

Hope this is ok

Not a biscuit, but I dry roast seeds and sprinkle with soy sauce - they are scrummy.

wholemeal cheese scones are scrummy, got my recipe out of the "finger food for babies and toddlers" book by Jennie Maizels. Lots of great stuff in there for older kids too.
