What can I do with it/put with it? DD is desperate to have some today, but other than putting it with smoked salmon, I'm stuck!
Thankyou

Make guacomole with it - garlic, lemon juice, bit of salt and use as a dip.
my 2 eat it in slices on its own as well.

NYceMummy · 23/10/2006 03:27

It's great with chicken in a sandwich.

eidsvold · 23/10/2006 07:53

straight on toast and topped with cracked pepper

second on the sandwich with chicken and a dab of mayo - yummy.

guacomole - yummy.

Pixiefish · 23/10/2006 07:55

on its own or you could add some seafood sauce with it

aDadOnMumsnet · 23/10/2006 08:20

All ideas are good...

Yep guacaomle - no garlic though probably for kids.

And for seafood sauce / marie rose just mix mayo and ketchup with a dash of lemon juice if you have it, and maybe bit of worcestershire sauce

Hattie05 · 23/10/2006 08:22

why no garlic adad?

i love avocado slice it and add it to any sandwich or salad.

the unhealthy option is to mix it with bacon and mayo yum!

CarolinaMooncup · 23/10/2006 08:25

no garlic? It's v good for you.

You might not want to get too close to them after they've eaten it raw, mind you...

Spookler1 · 23/10/2006 08:52

avocado prawns - oh yum!

aDadOnMumsnet · 23/10/2006 08:59

I just think for kids raw garlic might put them off.

I dont mind it with garlic, and am a huge garlic fan (as I am half French!) and this will sound anal, but the only way I had it in Mexico is made with lime juice, chilli, finely chopped onions, loads of tomatos and coriander. Again though there are things in there that kids probably wont like!

Hattie05 · 24/10/2006 00:45

But adad, don't you think that way of thinking is exactly what makes children 'think' they don't like something? (do's that sentence make sense?)

my dd loves proper guacomole made mexican style and food with garlic and spices as long as they are not too hot. I'm a great believer in letting children eat exactly what we eat without adaptations and let them decide what they do and don't like. so far the only thing dd doesn't like is cheese but she is beginning to realise that she eats cheese all the time in cooking and now says she doesn't like it on its own.

Here's the perfect guacamole recipe

2 avocados (the softer the better)
1 tomato
1/2 onion
1 clove of garlic
juice of one lime
1/4 cup cilantro (mmmm)

Put everthing but the avocados in the blender. Blend it. Add the avocados Blend it enough that you can still see small chunks. You're done.

Also my sil is Brazilian and there they take milk, sugar, and avocado and make a milkshake out of it. Hey it is a fruit.

1 liter milk
2 - 3 halved and peeled avocados
1/2 cup sugar

Blend on medium for 3 to 5 minutes.

MKG · 24/10/2006 01:27

I forgot the jalapeño in the avocado, but that is optional.

aDadOnMumsnet · 24/10/2006 07:44

All this avocado talk, a guacamole has to be made today!

That drink sounds interesting, kind of a meal in a glass!

Hattie - you're right I think.

Hattie05 · 24/10/2006 15:37

when its over ripe its great spread on toast also.

oxocube · 26/10/2006 16:49

just seen this! Yum - I love avocado. Makes me crave a margarita, mind you

Mumpbump · 26/10/2006 16:51

Avocado with a balsamic vinegrette in the middle - it's delish... Otherwise, tricolore sandwich - mozzarella, tomato and avocado...

Good old fashioned prawn cocktail
