Okay..... to make it as a round cake do 6,6,6 and 3.

6 flour, sugar, butter, 3 eggs. Use 2 tsp baking powder and 4 tbls milk.

Divide the mix between the two sandwich tins. Then I would make a butter icing for the middle (just butter and icing sugar.... maybe add some lemon juice), then do the topping as before.

Hope that helps.

Recipe... okay

12oz flour
9 oz sugar
9 oz butter/marg
4 eggs
3 tsp baking powder
6 tbsp milk
zest of 2 lemons

Pop it all in a bowl and whisk. Pop into large roasting tin or large square baking tin (which you should line with baking paper, but I don't always).

Cook on 180 or Gas 4/5 (I think) for 30-40 mins. To test if it's cooked pop a knife into it. If it comes out clean it's cooked. You can also press the top and see if it springs back up.

Prick it with holes. Warm the juice of the 2 lemons in the microwave for about 20secs. Spoon 3-4 tablespoons of lemon juice over the cake. Mix the rest with icing sugar (as thick as you like). Voila!

having heard so much about it, i am going to give it a go too!

The recipe sounds similar to my dp's lemon cake which is famous within my family, all of whom demand it as birthday cake now! Her recipe is the family recipe from the chef of the french laundry in california apparently.

anyway, will make yours and compare! You can't beat that sharp sweetness of a lemon drizzle!

lol!

Come on though, I must have read about 20 posts from different people on MN raving about yours, so it's bound to be delicious!

MarsLady · 22/10/2006 15:26

Oh.... well..... if you think so..... [girly blush]

Hello Mars

MarsLady · 22/10/2006 15:30

Hiya Floozy! You're up late or is it early? How're Mr Wong and the boys?

late-ish
it is vodka and orange o'clock
boys are good, well one isn't - he got whacked on the follow-through strok by a (plastic) cricket bat this arvo in the back yard. He's got a right shiner.

My parents are over for a month and continue to be rude and petulant if they don't get tea and biscuits every 90 minutes

Mr Wong is fabulous as ever

I haven't changed my tights on top of a bus for.... oh two weeks now on account of there being no double deckers for many hundreds of miles and no call to wear tights for many months

How are things with you?

MarsLady · 22/10/2006 15:38

lol Floozy! Sounds so lovely. I must stack up my births and come out and visit you in Wongland! The DTs are going through a "rolling on the floor hugging and kissing" phase, which is great except when I trip over them on the blooming stairs. The older 2 are really enjoying their schools and DD1 is really enjoying the new freedom that she's getting now that she's 12 and at senior school. DD2 is still my crazy chick, but she seems to be calming down a wee bit (thankfully). Did my exam. Loved the questions just hoping the examiners love my answers. Results in December, where we will have a repeat performance of our celebrations at the end of the exam (namely... drinks, food and more drinks until the pub closed... so from 1.20pm till after 11pm. Pub called The Dirty Dick.... oh the joy of that name!)

Bloodcurdling............ Share away honey. It's meant for world enjoyment lol!

Just made this and it's a little bit special. The mixture looked at bit dodgy at one point, but I but my faith in the MarsLady and it turned out great. I think this will be a regular...thanks Mars!

MarsLady · 28/10/2006 19:17

Thank you strangetown

I'm so glad that it has become a regular cake for you. We love it in our house, more so than the chocolate cakes.

I know what you mean about the dodgy look lol! But as they say... the proof is in the pudding! Don't forget to experiment with lime and orange and chocolate chips. Just replace the lemon zest and juice.
