OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 21/10/2006 09:50

Munz - eat them as they are, or mixed in with cornflakes, raisins and nuts for a sort of homemade trail mix

put them on cereal

grind them and add them to things (large quantities very nice in a nut loaf)

toast them in a frying pan with a little soy sauce - they go beautifully crunchy and have a lovely savoury taste

ludaloo · 21/10/2006 09:51

Marigold is a stock powder. You can use it to make bouillon (a clear vegetable soup that's very light) but I use it as seasoning. Add it to soups, stews and sauces and you can sprinkle it on salads. If you sprinkle it on chopped lettuce, tomato or cucumber it makes them taste yummy even without dressing. Great for getting children to eat veg.

Daemara · 21/10/2006 11:45

oats
runny honey
cinnamon
pine nuts

suzywong · 21/10/2006 12:43

fine cornmeal/polenta

great for American style pancakes for kids' breakfasts, spoon bread, cornbread, cakes, pastry flan cases - just a tablespoon stops them going soggy on the bottom. Also good for crumbing foods to be fried. Very nutritious too.

foundintranslation · 21/10/2006 12:46

(quick and simple pudding with store-cupboard ingredients - drizzle honey into bottom of individual dishes, natural yogurt on top, sprinkling of cinnamon on top of that)

janeite · 21/10/2006 16:11

I always try to have:
rice - basmati, arborio and short grain (for puds)

bulghar wheat - for taboulleh

cous cous - ready flavoured stuff for easy packed lunch to take to work

pasta - penne, spaghetti, lasagne

passata and tinned tomatoes

loads of spices

honey, mustard, marmite, peanut butter

nuts and raisins

red pesto (dh doesn't like green)

olive oil, chilli oil, garlic oil, balsamic vinegar, olives, roasted peppers, sundried tomatoes

kidney beans, chick peas, cannelini beans - tinned

lentils - red and green - dried

coconut milk

And in the freezer I always aim to have - peas, sweetcorn, quorn pieces, pitta bread, raspberries, good vanilla icecream, garlic bread

I've usually then got the warewithal to make a meal if dh just picks up some fresh vege or salad on his way home

I'm veggie, the others aren't - but we eat veggie most f the week at home.

munz · 21/10/2006 16:14

cheers girls - u guys sure do have a lot of variations in the cupboards!

jen - how do u get your DH to eat more veggie dishes or is he not too fussed?

Cheddar cheese, tuna, stock cubes, tinned tomatoes, olive oil, maple syrup, greek yoghurt, eggs, bananas, porridge oats, oatcakes, rice cakes, weetabix, garlic, onions, apples, raisins, dried fruit, pasta & spaghetti, arborio rice, brown rice, long grain rice, mushroom soup (tin condensed), porcini mushrooms, pesto jars, cinnamon, soy sauce, red/white wine vinegar, dijon mustard, dried herbs (but particularly dried italian herb mix) worcester sauce, ketchup, a bottle or two of red/white wine!!

janeite · 22/10/2006 19:32

Hi Munz - no need to force him to eat veggie; he's quite happy doing so. When we eat out though, he always orderes meat or fish for both starter and main course - making up for missing out I reckon.

janeite · 22/10/2006 19:33

And I do know how to spell "orders" really - note to self: MUST learn to preview.

theHAUNTEDhazelnut · 22/10/2006 19:52

I have had a quick read of this thread and I do have a lot of the bits that people have said they have in there cupboards all the time.
BUT
I see there is one really must have in the cupboard that is not on any ones list.

And thats chocolate

But I have ran out and I could really eat a bar on me at the mo

Note to myself. < make sure you keep chocolate in the kitchen cupboard at all times >
