Pretty much most of the usuals already listed are in our cupboards. But we don't like spice, so none of those!

Marigold vegetable bouillon powder - but the low salt version for the little ones
Balsamic syrup
Ready made polenta - a cheat, I know, but great for sticking under the grill with home-made tomato sauce, for a quick tea

doobydoo · 23/10/2006 16:29

OOh this is a good thread.
Pine nuts
Tamari Sauce
Bunalun Sauces
Pasta
Bouillion Stock
Wheat free stuff for dp
Olive Oil
Strong Cheese

Queenmummy · 23/10/2006 16:43

The usual stuff really - I got Tamasin Day-Lewis' Kitchen Bible recently (great book, really recommend it) and I was amused to find that her 'storecupboard essentials' list read like an inventory of my kitchen cupboards. I sometimes get fed up with the amount of stuff in our cupboards, but when I look at it I realise that I do use it all on a regular basis and it would be difficult to cut down what we have in there.

My list:

Oils - Olive, sunflower, groundnut, sesame
Vinegars - red wine, white wine, balsamic
Mustards - English, wholegrain, smooth Dijon
Spices/herbs - a pretty extensive range
Flours - plain, self-raising, wholemeal, bread, pasta
Sugars - unrefined caster, light and dark muscovado, icing
Tins - tomatoes, various pulses, fruit in natural juice
Dried - pasta (spaghetti, twists, lasagne), rice (risotto, basmati, brown basmati), bulghar wheat, quinoa, cous cous, chinese noodles, lentils (red and green), muesli, porridge oats, weetabix, nuts (various), fruit (raisins, cranberries, dates, various - depends), tea bags, ground coffee, chocolate (Green & Blacks, natch!), some pretzels or similar, oatcakes,
Spreads etc - sundried tomato paste, pesto, honey, marmite, stock cubes, soy sauce, fish sauce, tamarind paste, raspberry jam, sundried tomatoes in oil, capers, tomato puree, miso paste,
Fridge - eggs, yoghurt, butter, milk, parmesan cheese, cheddar cheese, white wine, tonic water, gin(!), beer
Fruit/veg - always onions, garlic, celery, carrots, salad stuff, bananas, apples and then a whole host of other things, it depends

I'm sure there is masses more, but I feel tragic enough for listing this lot - I'm NOT going to go and check the cupboards

aDadOnMumsnet · 23/10/2006 16:56
