Freezer/cupboard lists?

Does anyone list everything that is in their freezer/cupboards then tick them off as they eat them?

I have got a chest freezer and also a stand up freezer and both are full of batch cooked bolognaises, stews etc meat that hasn't been cooked yet and some frozen veg etc.. Thing is I keep buying more food even though I have plenty

I was thinking of maybe having some sort of list attached to the freezer so when I add to it or use stuff up I could put it on the list?!

I do this. I number containers with permanent marker...a1,a2 etc and as I fill them I note the number, contents and date on a piece of paper which is stuck to the inside of the larder. I know exactly what I have in the freezer every week when I meal plan.

I have mine on the same spreadsheet I use for my menu plan.

Every few months I have spell when we eat down the freezer/food cupboard til it's empty. During this time I buy much less food (just fresh fruit/vegetables really).

I do the same as quilt. I batch cook a lot so every five weeks or so, I just run the freezer down and just buy fruit milk and cheese and bread. Doing it this week. I find the odd random pork chop etc, but at least the batch cooking doesn't remain in the bottom of the freezer too long.

Brilliant thanks for your ideas/suggestions
Def going to make an effort to get this food used before I batch cook anything else!

I used to and a great idea it is- however I was the only one to update said list which led to me planning a meal with say, pasta, as I can see on the list we have some in the cupboard- only to find after I've started making the meal that dh had used it and not crossed it off. Led to a memorable egg noodle puttanesca Confused
