The famous mumsnet chicken

NOw I know how the fabled chicken works, for some mad reason when I ordered a "3kg +" sized free range chicken from an online grocery order I was delivered a 6.85kg chicken. That's right, one the size of a turkey. It wouldn't fit in the fridge so I roasted it today and then I have spent the evening cooking other meals with leftovers.

I have made:

Roast chicken for 2 greedy grown ups (plus seconds/thirds)
A chicken casserole for 4
A mild gingery tomatoey Chicken curry for 4
Chicken Madras for 6-8
And there's a huge amount of chicken breast meat for sandwiches/salads waiting to be used

not bad for a £14.50 chicken but I'm still mystified how one was that big or why the packers thought it was a good substitute for a 3kg chicken

Are you sure it was a chicken Confused capons are around 3kg

Ah but if you had served the roast chicken in a family with several teenagers then there would have been only enough for one curry and even then you'd have to scrape every speck off the bones.
and pad it out with lentils and veg....

The packers accurately sent you a 3kg + chicken! Grin

I remember how many meals used to come from a chicken when I was a child, a lot of the birds now are poor undersized things. That really does sound like you've done a sterling job with it though.
