I feel like making some but what goes well with it?
I have had it with chips in the past when eating out but want to try something else.
Thanks.

I wouldn't have carbohydrate with it as it's so filling

gammon or chunky white fish

Marina · 19/10/2006 13:29

It depends what else you are adding to the recipe - we often make ours a bit more substantial by adding diced bacon and leeks and turning it more into a gratin. Which we have with baked pots and a green salad...

lorina · 19/10/2006 13:29

crusty bread and crispy bacon,or sausages

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 19/10/2006 13:29

We just have it on its own. Is that wrong?

marymillington · 19/10/2006 13:30

temper tantrums

and that's just DH

Marina · 19/10/2006 13:31

No, Jackie! It's that we have minuscule organic caulis from Ocado that need help to go four ways

chocolateshoes · 19/10/2006 13:31

Grilled salmon or smoked mackeral fillet, roast tomatoes with garlic & basil, jacket pots....

Wintersun · 19/10/2006 13:33

I personally wouldn't mind it on its own but I think dh would want something else.
I like the sound of fish with it.
Hmmm only have salmon though. Is that too strong a flavour?

Phew, thanks Marina.

battybird · 19/10/2006 13:34

Sweetcorn is yum with it.

Wintersun · 19/10/2006 13:35

Sorry chocolateshoes didn't see your message - I think I will try it with grilled salmon.
Thanks.

Jacket potatoes

chocolateshoes · 19/10/2006 13:40

Bon appetit!

foxtrottingtotransylvania · 19/10/2006 13:43

nice with gammon, or crispy bacon, and plenty of tomato ketchup.

Wordsmith · 19/10/2006 13:46

I make a sort of all in one thing by cooking the cauli a bit, then frying up some smoked bacon, a few sliced field mushrooms and some tomatoes (lightly), outtin it i a gratin dish, pouring over white sauce and topping with cheddar then baking for about 20 mins, it's gorgeous with rice.

Bozza · 19/10/2006 13:47

Jackie we just usually have it with garlic bread.
So nearly on it's own.

BettyBatShapedSpaghetti · 19/10/2006 13:50

Baked or roast potatoes

zippitippitoes · 19/10/2006 13:51

all you people who have potatoes with it..isn't it a bit white and filling?

puppydavies · 19/10/2006 13:55

we always have a mix of veg - pots, cauli, maybe leeks and always carrots, they're fab with cheese sauce. then crispy bacon sprinkled on the top.

BettyBatShapedSpaghetti · 19/10/2006 14:00

zipitippitoes -we tend to have pots as without them it just seems a bit boring but I tend to not be a fan of just "one" food on a plate IYSWIM (one mass of the same texture and taste, ie. just cauli cheese).

Obviously when its with pots we don't have a massive portion of the cauli cheese as that would be too filling (and wind inducing with certain memebers of this family!)

chocolatequeen · 19/10/2006 14:01

Ooooh, bizarre.

I´m having cauli cheese tonight too, liking all the ideas. Have leeks and bacon in the fridge, so think I am going to follow Marina´s recipe today.... Even the princes can have some. Thanks!!

corrina28 · 19/10/2006 14:05

we normally have pork steaks yorkshire puds and veg with it.

ProfessorGrammaticus · 19/10/2006 14:09

Bacon. And a little bit of mustard in the cheese sauce is nice.

MegaLegs · 19/10/2006 14:11

This thread has just reminded me that there is a cauli lurking at the back of the fridge. Guess what we are having for tea?
