Indian Spice Packets

Hello,

I have a query about Indian spice packets.

I use these quite a lot as they make a tasty and healthy meal in a short amount of time.

I've tried quite a few but my favourite has to be the Our House of Spice ones (if you haven't tried them I highly recommend them!)

Has anyone else tried any Indian spice packets? (I want to make sure I'm not missing out on any as Indian food is our favourite!)

Not tried those, but I can recommend Patak's curry sauces... They are amazingly good. I say this as someone who makes a lot of curry from scratch.

I like the Startlys ones - sold at Tebay Services and farm shops but they also have a website so you can order online.

Thanks very much for all suggestions. I've given Patak's a go- I found it quite oily but maybe I didn't make it right.

We had the Our House of Spice masala spice packet yesterday. Plates were completely clean. I'll give the Starly's packets a go too.

Indian food tends to be quite oily, which is perhaps why the Patak's came out like that.

I think I need to try spice packets, rather than doing my usual thing of measuring them all into a saucer before I start...

I use the Spice Tailor packs for a quick curry, you can cook them without adding oil if you want to (I do). I usually add a bit of water which is not on the instructions as it reduces down a bit too much (the way I cook it anyway).

I make my own from scratch a lot but can make one with a Spice Tailor kit in under 30 minutes without grating garlic/ginger, etc.

Very authentic. I don't like Pataks or anything else on offer in the supermarket.

I'm glad it's not just me who finds some Indian foods quite oily. It makes the food look so unappealing.

Why would you join a parenting website to ask about spice packets?

Because I use spice packets to make Indian food for my family. They are a sensible and healthier alternative to jars of sauces and I wanted to know if I was missing out on any good spice packets.

This is the 'Food' section after all.

Thinking "I'll join Mumsnet!" would not have been my first thought.

I've never heard of spice packets. I've had a look but to be honest it's so quick and easy to mix your own preferred blends I don't see the point at all.
We enjoy a lot of curry and other highly spiced meals and I know just what goes down well here.

Surely if this topic is not something that interests you- don't comment. There's no need to be rude.

I've used a few packets of spices in the past, some have been better than others. I can understand though why they are so popular.

I'll give the Spice Tailor and the Our House of Spice ones a go I think.
