I'm making some chilli to celebrate end of 11+ exams with some mums tonight. Loosely a Jamie Oliver recipe. But there's too much cinnamon in it and it tastes bitter!

I've peeled and thrown in a potato to try to soak up the spice, added an extra can of tomatoes and a jar of Bloody Mary salsa dip I had lurking around, which has helped, but I can still taste the cinnamon!

Help please lovely ladies of Mumsnet. I've ônly posted a few times and never started a thread but I really hope you'll come to my rescue.

Bung some chocolate in it!

How much cinnamon did you put in??? If it's bitter, stir in a good pinch of sugar and freshen up the flavours at the end with a squeeze of lime juice?

Maybe this will help?
They say add more beans, chili, honey - hard to predict tbh.

I put in a teaspoon as it said in the recipe. Will try chocolate. The dip,was quite sweet. Thanks all will keep, checking back for suggestions!

Maybe they meant not sweet cinnamon we buy in supermarkets but Saigon cinnamon?

Have put in half a block of green and blacks dark chocolate minus two squares' some chilli flakes, paprika and salt. Now I just have to wait. And make really good guacamole and serve with grated cheese and yoghurt!

Bugger I can still taste it! Made my decorator try it and he said it was delicious so I'm going to stick with it and not eat much myself!
