Hi,
this is my first post. My dd is nearly 8 months, and we started solids around 2 months ago, though we haven't got onto much more exciting than veggies and chicken. My problem is, she will either totally reject, or else only take two ice-cubes, of food, and then demand a breastfeed anyway. So I am constantly cooking and heating up food, then chucking it out and b/fing anyway. Breakfast is especially a problem, as she is not interested in baby rice or fruit (even though banana used to be a favourite). This is a typical day - can anyone tell me things I'm doing wrong?
7-7.30am get up, try with cereal or fruit, rejected, give her some sweet potato (which she loves).
9.30am she goes for a nap, but because she hasn't eaten much solids, she is still hungry, so I have to b/f before then.
Up again around 10.15. There's no way she can last until midday for solids lunch, so I b/f her around 11ish. Then at 12ish she has some solids - maybe chicken and veg, anywhere between 0 and 4 icecubes. Again, I have to b/f her before she'll sleep at 1pm. (I don't b/f her to sleep, she is awake when I put her down, but she seems not to sleep unless she has a full tummy).
2.30ish wakes up, b/f. Hungry by 4.30/5 so I give her some solids - again, she's mainly interested in veg like sweet pot and cauliflower. Bath at 5.30 then she has another b/f before bed at 6.30pm. Up again at 9.30/10 for another b/f.
My main questions are:

  1. what else can I give her for brekky? I can't give her veggies all the time can I??
  2. How do people manage to give solids at "appropriate" meal times? If she had her way she'd be having them at odd times like 11am and 4.30pm. How do I get her to hold on until mealtimes without filling her up with breastmilk?
  3. She doesn't have teeth yet. Can I give finger foods, and if so, what?
  4. Please pick apart my "routine" and tell me how I can make it better! Thanks

dont think it matters yet if she is not eating at regular mealtimes, more important that she is eating 3/4 times a day.

our 2.2year and our 6month are always thirsty when they wake up but never hungry. i wait for about an hour before feeding them.

try this one (think she is still too young for regular porridge)...go to health store, buy some brown rice flakes, cook with water, then puree it. either feed like this or add pureed fruit.

fruit ideas: again from health shop(so they will have no sugar etc coatin them)...dried prunes, figs, apricots, (individually or mixed together), boil for about 5 mins until plump and juicy, puree fruit and cooking water...delicious!

baby rice?

she could probably handle rusks as a finger food. make sure you keep an eye on her so she doesnt choke.
