Leftover baked ham - ideas?

HungerKunstler · 03/01/2015 19:58

We kind of overshot the mark with our New Year's Day baked ham and have about half of it left i. e. 2-3 lbs. How long does it keep for? Any ideas on what to use it for?

We've had ham sandwiches for the last two days running. Seems criminal to throw it out!

Ham, pea and leek risotto. Yum.

Chop it up into pie/risotto/soup sizes chunks and freeze into batches. Then you don't have to think about it just yet...

Ham, potato and leek gratin.

Shred and sweat off the leeks, peel and slice the potato (c. 1cm slices), and cook until tender/nearly cooked. Make cheese sauce. Layer potatoes, shredded ham, leeks and cheese sauce, topping finally with cheese sauce (and breadcrumbs if you have them), and bake in the oven.

Cut into manageable pieces and freeze them? Then you won't be eating ham non-stop for the next week.

Great, thanks for these ideas! So it'll keep fine frozen?

Yes, I freeze it all the time. Just freeze in usable sizes. I tend to freeze in 6 or 8 slices and just use it instead of buying ham for sandwiches.

Ham fried rice Smile
