Lovely meals I CAN eat while pregnant?

I've exhausted all the ideas I've ever had (or can remember) for meals I am allowed to eat. Has anyone got any really satisfying, hearty suggestions for pregnant friendly meals? I am haunted by fantasies involving illicit cheeses, rare meat and very weirdly raw egg yolks and I'm feeling very sorry for myself. Imagining Christmas without stilton is horrific. Obvs. this is a first world problem of the highest order...

I'm craving pate and champagne. Bastard parasite!

Xmas Grin

I might indulge moderately over Christmas.

I craved greengages and BigMacs, surely for the special sauce.

I would only add 2 things: prunes & apricots are a good source of iron, easily absorbed. And #2 look at what you're craving and see what nutrient they have in common- in your case protein & calcium - and consider alternative sources. Meringues are my favourite way to have egg.

I used to crave Carrots all the time. just raw carrots. I was so lucky it wasn't anything worse.

Stilton is fine - I discovered this in my third pregnancy so had some at Christmas (better late than never!)

I am craving salt. Salted popcorn and pickled onion monster munch - yum yum.

Also refresher sweets

But I have a crazy diet coke addiction and I cannot bring myself to drink it. Can't even finish a glass. So upset

I craved sweeties-things like dolly mixtures which I wouldn't normally have touched. Chocolate raisins and chocolate brazils .And ice cold coke (it had to be icy) which I would never have normally even thought of . Must be a common denominator? Sugar?
25 years ago I overcooked a very expensive fresh turkey because I was terrified of listeria (I was 7m pregnant). And I worried about a slightly off tasting sandwich I had a bite of . Never touched soft cheeses either but I don't remember eggs being an issue, if cooked .
And I drank in moderation through both my pregnancies (both my DDs have First Class degrees-boasts -so I don't think it can have been too detrimental) everything in moderation

You can eat any cheese made with pasteurised milk. Honestly, what a FUSS!

ilovepowerhoop · 22/12/2014 21:12

that's not strictly true - it's advised not to eat some soft cheeses even if they are pasteurised e.g. soft mould ripened and soft blue cheeses.

Seafood is fine too as long as it's not raw oysters or days old.

Some fish, such as salmon, is positively excellent!

And a glass of champagne on Christmas Day is not a problem...no tequila slammers though!! It's somewhat about the speed you drink it, and whether it's an empty stomach etc - so sips with a meal is ok.

I know someone who contracted listeria while pregnant- it was really dangerous for her and baby. I was of the 'better be safe' camp. Just avoided soft cheese, mr whippy ice cream and salads at buffets. Grin
