That's one of my regular dinner dishes, NoNaeNever. It's always popular.
Faith, italian roast lamb is lovely. Slice two onions, chop about five biggish potatoes into chunks, put into a roasting tin with about 300gm of diced lamb shoulder. add three sprigs of rosemary, and a drained jar of black olives (stones in). Season with plenty of salt and pepper, and pour on some olive oil (2 tbsp?). Toss the whole lot with your hands, then put in the oven at 190C for about an hour. It's a Carluccio recipe.
Also, goulash. Roughly chop three onions, and fry in some olive oil until softened. Add salt, two tbsp sweet paprika and a qtr tsp of caraway seeds, and about 250 gm of diced braising steak. Brown the meat, coating it with the paprika. Add a bit of red wine, if you want, and about 300 ml of beef stock (or stock cube or boullion is fine, obv.) and simmer, while you peel and chop about five biggish potatoes into bite sized chunks. Add the potatoes, mix together, cover and simmer until the potatoes are soft, and start to thicken the gravy. Chop two red Romano peppers into rings, and add them about 15 to 20 mins before you want to eat. Best with floury potatoes.
