colouring marzipan?

Want to make a superman logo for a birthday cake & thought about using marzipan but not sure about colouring the red bit. Can you paint onto marzipan or does the colour bleed? Can't buy blocks of ready made icing here or would use that. Any suggestions welcome!

You should be OK to paint onto marzipan as long as it is dry (ie- dried out over a couple of days once on the cake.
Red is quite a strong colour though so it may be worth buying some marzipan, rolling it out and then leaving it to dry and doing a test!!
