Cake decoration advice needed

How do i make hard icing? Like the kind you get with pre-made decorations.

I'm wanting to make shapes to put on top of frosted carrot cake squares for DD's birthday party.

Alternatively i could make chocolate shapes? Is that just a matter of piping melted chocolate onto greaseproof paper and then leaving it to set? I've seen it done on GBBO but have never tried this before.

Am starting to panic now as the party is next weekend and i've got a busy work week ahead.

Use fondant icing for making little carrots. You can buy it ready to go...it's a bit like Plasticine and comes ready coloured or you colour it yourself with gel colourant.

orange fondant to buy online

Fondant will harden up if you make what you need in advance and dry in a cardboard box but you can hurry up this process by adding a small amount of tylo powder to the fondant.

And if it's a flattish decoration then it doesn't need to harden.

Thanks, I was just coming back on to ask if the fondant would harden. I'm making flat shapes but would like them to stand up out of the frosting.

Although i do like the idea of little carrots too...
