Forgot the bloody butter!!!

argh, have just made the mumsnet Christmas cake...looks good,smells lush. But have just realised I didn't add the butter will it be inedible??

Why don't you take a bit out from underneath and try it? I am sure that it will be OK. It may effect its keep-ability, but I should think that the sugar content and any added alcohol will play their part, so probably OK.

You could always put it down to experience, then cut it up and freeze it in pudding-sized portions and have a slice every now and again, heated up and covered with custard. Nothing poisonous has gone in to it, so it will be OK in that respect.
